My job title is Director of Market Research. I’m basically a guy that likes digging into data and playing with software analysis tools. It comes in handy when putting together all kinds of market research reports. I’m passionate about solving challenging problems through data and technology. With experience ranging from early programming languages like COBOL and FORTRAN to today’s advanced software tools, I bring both historical perspective and modern technical expertise. My background in databases and GIS directly supports CBAS’s mission to deliver data-driven market insights. Additionally, my work at H-GAC and Metrostudy has provided me with a deep understanding of the Houston market and its dynamics.

Q1: How did you get started in this field?

I started my career as a demographer at the Houston-Galveston Area Council, building long-term housing and population forecasts for transportation planning across the region. That’s when I first came across Metrostudy in the 2000s—their work really caught my attention. After deciding to leave the public sector, I kept in touch with David Jarvis and Mike Insellmann until I finally got the chance to join them. It was a great move that connected my analytical background with my passion for real estate.

Q2: What’s your manager or leadership team like?

Lawrence, Danny, and everyone at CBAS are great to work with. Lawrence has an incredible depth of knowledge about Houston real estate and beyond, and it’s great knowing I can bounce ideas off him whenever I need a reality check. Consulting can feel a little solitary at times since I spend most of my day in front of a computer working on reports, so I really appreciate being able to reach out to anyone on the team for help or guidance—they’re all supportive and easy to work with.

Q3: Where do you see your industry heading in the next few years?

Houston continues to rank among the top U.S. markets for new home construction, thanks to its strong business climate and steady population growth. This momentum is expected to continue, driving development further into surrounding counties such as Austin, Washington, Grimes, Walker, and Brazos. It’s an exciting time for the homebuilding and development industries in the Houston area. Looking ahead at CBAS, I’m especially enthusiastic about our web platform, Community Vision. As CBAS grows and more users engage with the platform, their feedback will help us refine and expand its capabilities—potentially even incorporating AI features in the future.

Q4: What are some activities you like to participate in during your free time?

My wife, Claire, and I have been actively involved with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for more than 45 years and continue to enjoy everything that experience encompasses. Galveston serves as our second home, where we spend much of our time on the water—boating, kayaking, fishing, crabbing, and relaxing on the beach—as well as exploring the Strand. I have a passion for cooking, whether it’s preparing a hearty gumbo, smoking ribs or brisket, or baking fresh bread. We also love visiting our son and grandson in Colorado and make it a point to go hiking together whenever we can.
